Hemp building industry leaders, construction pros and the hemp-curious will gather in Austin, Texas at the end of October  for the 3rd Annual U.S. Hemp Building Summit, co-sponsored by Idaho-based Hempitecture, Inc. and the U.s. Hemp Building Association.

The summit  takes place at the Austin Public Library Oct. 29-30 and will include presentations from some of the leaders in green building and hemp construction.

Hempitecutre hosted the first U.S. Hemp Building Summit in Ketchum, Idaho in 2019, attended by about 200 people. The 2020 summit was held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Austin event will include a field trip to Austin’s Community First! Village, a tiny-home community for people experiencing homelessness. One of Austin’s first hempcrete structures was built at Community First!, organized by Austin hemp builder and local Realtor, Henry Valles.

Other notables attending will include Canadian green building expert Chris Magwood, author of Essential Hempcrete Construction and founder of Builders for Climate Action.

Others include Dallas-based building materials scientist and YouTube celebrity Belinda Carr, Americhanvre founder and hemp insulation subcontractor Cameron McIntosh. Also attending will be Massachusetts-based HempStone, LLC co-founders Jennifer Martin and Tom Rossmassler and Lori Daytner of the Project PA Hemp Home. See the whole schedule of speakers here.

The summit will also include a “Hemp Building Summit Slam” to showcase the most innovative hemp building projects from 2020. Summit organizers are accepting nominations for the contest until Oct. 25.
