Hemp Takes Center Stage at Natural Building Conference

BOULDER, CO - Hemp building materials took a prominent place at the Rocky Mountain Natural Building Conference Oct. 20-22. Hemp took the podium along with cob, straw bale, passive house, natural plaster and other natural building technologies, at the Natural Building Alliance's 20th anniversary conference.

Keynote speakers at the conference included hemp advocates from Parsons New School Healthy Materials Lab Alison Mears and Jonsara Ruth, as well as Mattie Mead, co-founder of Hempitecture, Inc. 

Corporate member Jennifer Martin of HempStone, along with Danny Desjarlais, and Earl Pendleton of the Lower Sioux, gave a presentation about "First Nation Hemp Development."

Also among the speakers were three natural building consultants who assisted USHBA with acceptance into the 2024 US residential building codes., Martin Hammer, Anthony Dente and David Eisenberg.

USHBA board member Alex Sexsmith, AIA, gave a presentation entitled "Carbon and Chemicals in our Built Environment" addressing black mold and other health issues, explaining how hempcrete can be the preventative solution. 

Natural builders understand the role hemp-lime and other hemp building materials will play in their industry going forward.
