Two hospitalized members of the hemp building community have received support from members of the industry through GoFundMe donations.

Brittany Camburn set up an online fundraiser for Pullman, MI-based carpenter and hempcrete installer Douglas Allan, Jr. who has worked on hempcrete projects using the Ereasy spray hempcrete system with Detroit-based Kim Croes of Fiber Fort and Cameron McIntosh of Americhanvre.

According to the online fundraiser, Allen suffered a heart attack Dec. 26 and is now in rehabilitation. The fundraiser seeks $5,000 to help Doug’s wife Kathy with expenses.

McInstosh of Americhanvre urged members of the hemp building community to pitch in to the GoFundMe.

“Doug is a talented trades person who may not be able to continue his career due to the trial he is undergoing medically right now,” McIntosh wrote. “This dude exemplifies the spirit I have found to be common amongst all of our training participants - Doug is kind hearted, capable and a real friend.”

As of Monday, Douglas Allan Jr’s fundraiser had raised $5,685 for a $5,000 goal from 48 donors.

Kansas Auto Accident Victim

Fort Dodge, KS hempcreter Angel Romero, Jr., was injured in a serious auto accident during a blizzard on Jan. 4, according to the GoFundMe page established by Adriana Wicker. Tragically, Angel’s passenger and brother-in-law died in the accident.

As of Monday, the page had raised $3,945 from 67 people of a $15,000 goal.

Angel is a well known hempcreter who also hosts an alter-ego as Angel de Paz, a Luchador wrestler and promoter in Fort Dodge. Angel is a hemp-lime craftsman and also a teacher, who helped build the Hemp Casita traveling prototype with students at Kansas State University in 2023.

“Thankfully Angel is in recovery, but it will be a long and unpredictable process,” Wicker posted on the fundraising website. “We are making this GoFundMe in hopes of covering some of the immediate medical expenses we will be facing, as well as to help with the loss of work during this time.”
