Hemp Voices: Paul Seehusen, Prairie PROducers
I personally am interested in the opportunity hemp offers with carbon sequestration and also utilizing an age-old building material. It is in our best interest to do what we can do to stop the carbon dioxide increases from the past few decades. Exploiting agricultural commodities to capture and store the carbon in a useable fiber with the most incredibly sequestering commodity on this planet is important to Prairie PROducers. We see the industrial hemp plant as a tremendous opportunity for local farmers to use as a rotation crop. We all know the benefits of growing industrial hemp! Also, on uses… the trees we could save, the soil we could clean up, and the over used cropland that could be revived.
What was a win for your company in the past year?
This past year we were able to pique the interest of individual investors and groups after our three difficult years of development. Though I cannot share details with your audience, Prairie PROducers is in a position to move forward in a big way throughout 2023.
What is something about hemp building/construction/processing you didn’t know a year ago?
As the CEO I take pride in keeping on top of developments but as we all know, we are always learning something new every day about industrial hemp. Upon seeing this sector grow the most, I guess just the fact that we were on the right track in this industry in developing our industrial hemp fiber processing facility.
What challenges does the hemp building industry face that it must overcome in the next five years?
Development and infrastructure. In order for this industry to be taken seriously there needs to be, dare I say, an “endless” native supply chain and a confidence built up in the consumer about the industry. We all believe in this industry but we have to educate others to “get on board” with utilizing this amazing processed fiber in building materials. Once others see this isn’t just a “fling,” there will be great growth within.
